The Victorinox Story
Victorinox Swiss Army – History
Master Cutler Karl Elsener opened a cutlery shop in Ibach, Switzerland in 1884. Seven years later, in 1891, Karl supplied the Swiss Army with its standard issue Soldier’s Knife. After the death of his mother in 1909, Karl Elsener introduced the brand name Victoria and the iconic Cross and Shield emblem is registered as a trademark. With the advent of stainless steel, Karl Elsener coined the company’s name, Victorinox, by combining his mother’s name with “inox”, an abbreviation of the French word for rust-resistant steel, “inoxydable”. After World War II, the “Original Swiss Army Knife” began its successful progression around the world and enjoyed exceptional popularity. In 1989, Victorinox entered the timepiece business in the United States under the brand name “Swiss Army”. Ten years later, Victorinox joined the Travel Gear market, partnering with TRG Group in St. Louis. And in 2001, Victorinox fashion was introduced in the US to further capture the brand’s essence of practical luxury. In 2002, in order to promote global unity, the Victorinox Swiss Army timepiece brand was launched internationally. In 2007, Victorinox set up Victorinox Swiss Army Fragrance AG, and in 2009 Victorinox Swiss Unlimited was launched. 2014 marks Victorinox Swiss Army’s 130th anniversary, and each Victorinox Swiss Army product embodies the spirit of the Legendary Original Swiss Army Knife, a universal symbol of Functionality, Innovation, Quality and Iconic Design.

Chronograph does not reset correctly

Watch looks nice. However, the chronograph does not reset correctly. Always stops at 10 or 11 and not in 12.

legendary quality
By arboritionist
A high quality watch without breaking the bank. Received mine as a gift. The chronograph instructions were a bit difficult to understand at first, but after watching a video on Victorinox' web site, it became clear.
There IS a way to correct when the chronograph doesn't reset properly, the other reviewer missed that setting. But hey, so did I at first!

SIMPLE, STYLISH, TOUGH
By Tj Pierce
I just wanted a basic, understated, durable watch and thought this would fill the bill. It has. It's beautiful in a minimalist sort of way, with fluorescent numbers and hands, and a whisper quiet mechanism. Setting the time and date is simple and it keeps perfect time. The cover of the watch casing and the wrist band appear to be made of the same tough, black rubber, and enough holes are punched in the band to keep my wrist from sweating.
One aesthetic note: The face of the watch looks more elegant than the photos here. I think they either removed the crystal to reduce reflections in the photo or used a polarizing filter. Be advised that the clearly visible inner ring encircling the numbers in the photo is actually a 45-degree-ish beveled surface that completely disappears when the crystal is in place.

Great watch but with problems
By Jolene Morishita
Beware of warrenty issues. I love this watch and would purchase the same model again, but I would not advise purchasing a Victorinox from Amazon. Victorinox does not honor their warrenties when an item is purchased through Amazon. So, my lovely watch that gets so fogged-up that it is difficult to read the time whenever it gets wet, is a big disappointment. Save yourself some frustration and purchase this watch through a dealer that is able to honor the manuafacturer warrenty.

Excellent and practical
By Bunson Honeydew
This is a great watch for the outdoors person, or it is good for weekend wear. It will look a little out of place with a suit or sport jacket/blazer.
I bought mine in 1994/1995 and it's only needed a few battery replacements.

High quality watch with great utility light
By Brian Welcker
My wife bought this for me for Christmas. I was looking for a watch with a rubber band and big numbers. The dial is easy to read and the little blue LED on the face that activates when you push the single button makes it easy to get to see in the dark. The white LED at the top of the watch (activate by double-tapping the button) is the killer feature. How many times have you fumbled for keys in the dark or tried to find a lightswitch? It's surprisingly bright. The periodic red flashing LED at the base of the watch face seems totally gratuitous, though.
I have pretty narrow wrists so I have to put the strap on the last notch to get it to fit right. It looks a little big on me but will probably look perfect on someone with normal sized wrists. I can't say anything to the durability yet but working great so far.

Unique Watch with handy features
By J. Kurtz
The Victorinox Swiss Army Active Night Vision II Mens Watch V.251131 is a great watch. It keeps excellent time, the blue light on the face is very readable at night and the little mini flashlight built in the bezel comes in handy when you least expect it. Like when you're crawling under a desk looking for a loose screw, or making a midnight trip to the bathroom in a strange hotel room. And the watch looks good too.
I gave it four stars instead of five because the "light switch" on mine (the black button between the 9 and 8) fell off after six months of hard use. It's in for repair now.

Heavy watch that performs as advertised, but the price is too high
By Steve Brandon
I first saw the new, redesigned version of this watch in December 2012 at my neighborhood jewelry store, an AD for Victorinox wristwatches. The "new" version of this watch (introduced in 2012) sells for nearly $600 (albeit with a very nice clasp bracelet), whereas the "old" version of this watch sells for $259. And as far as I can tell, the only significant difference between the "new" Night Vision and this version of the Night Vision is the face. I preferred the bolder look of the "old" face, with its large, arabic numerals, so I purchased this watch to take advantage of Amazon's free, one-day shipping and the lower price.
From my point of view, the decision to redesign the watch face was misguided. On the one hand, the face of the "new," $600 watch is cleaner and more stylish. On the other hand, the redesigned face and elegant bracelet will not fool anyone into believing that this sports watch is a dress watch. The large, white numerals on the black face of the "old" watch make it easier to tell the time more quickly during active use than the silver numerals and hour markers on the black or silver face of the "new" watch, in my opinion. Moreover, I can't imagine that anyone will wear the "new" watch (or the "old" watch, for that matter) on a daily basis. As others have remarked, this watch appears to be solidly constructed and durable, but it is unusually heavy -- and the bracelet only adds to its weight.
Other observations: (1) The band is made of high-quality rubber that is very comfortable. However, for this price I believe that the band should have included a clasp lock instead of a pin buckle. (2) If you have a small wrist or are accustomed to wearing lighter quartz or mechanical wristwatches, take note: this is a big, heavy watch. (I don't know why this watch is so heavy. My Casio Super Illuminator diver's watch produces almost as much light as this watch, and it is much, much lighter than the Night Vision.) (3) Sometimes I merely want to turn my wrist to check the time in low-light situations (such as in a theater) -- I don't want to draw attention to myself by activating the watch's very bright, very conspicuous blue face light. But the quality of the luminescent material used for the hands and the numbers appears to be sub-par, because the luminescence fades very quickly after it is charged. For the price, luminescent materials of higher quality should have been used. And it would have been nice to have included a luminescent pointer on the seconds hand. (4) For such a large watch, the date window is bafflingly small. And I think that the hands should have been larger. The size of the hands does not seem to be proportional to the size of the watch. (5) To me, it would have made more sense to locate the light pusher at the 2 o'clock position instead of the 8:30 position. It would be easier to activate the light with the forefinger of your opposite hand, instead of your thumb.
Pros: Solid, robust, handsome watch with very bright face light and flashlight. Rubber strap is very comfortable. Will be a useful tool for hikers, campers, and travelers.
Cons: At $259, it's overpriced -- $179 would be more like it. Heavy. The design of the watch is good, but it's not great.

Great Look, Questionable Craftsmanship
By Matt
I did a lot of research prior to buying this product and it holds true authenticity upon receipt. You want to look for "swiss made" near the 6 o clock on the dial face. It keeps time well just as a quartz should, the band and case are quality material with some weight, and I love the contrast between the green dial and brown leather band.
Update (1 year in)
My watch is "freezing" occasionally, for anywhere from 6-15 minutes. This went unnoticed for some time until I started showing up late to meetings and realized my watch was slow. The problem has gotten worse and so I've looked at getting it replaced under the warranty. The service center has told me it needs a complete internal replacement. I bought the watch from "BlueDial" who basically lied about it having a warranty as they are not authorized sellers. Amazon has stepped in and is repairing the watch for me so I am thankful to them, but the moral of the story is the questionable mechanical integrity of this watch. At this price I do not think it should have such significant issues one year in.

Just what I wanted.
By bobgray5
Love this watch. I wanted a basic watch that is stylish, for out in the town, yet has a vintage rugged look to it without all the bells and whistles The color is versatile, and attractive. The band is a little thin for my big wrists, but all and all it is a well-made watch that I would recommend. Very satisfied.

It's Green!
By Pommes
I almost missed this watch while shopping, in that it had a brown strap, which is a non-starter. Then I thought the face was a grey-black. Yet it still was attractive: The dial-to-case ratio is very efficient in that the matte finished case extends a mere 4mm beyond the cyrystal, which measures 31mm across. So, the case measures 39mm, not counting the stem knob. As a result, the watch appears to the eye as all face with no clunky metal surround. And what a face: large luminous numbers, big hands, 24 hour markings and a date window (albeit too small). Overall: Cool. Got to have it. So I bought it at a very good price, quite below the Internet offers--host site included...
The first thing I did when I got it home was dye the strap black. Then I discovered under bright sunlight, that the face was olive drab, not grey black. Maybe that's why its called a vintage infantry watch. I'm Navy, but love the color, anyway. Did I mention that the stainless steel case is matte finished, not shiny? In all, the minimalist matte finished case, the olive drab face, bold numbers and scratch proof crystal make this an unusual and attractive time piece. Works too...
